Starting June 30, international visitors to Finland will no longer be required to provide proof of coronavirus vaccination, or be subject to any pre-departure or post-arrival COVID-19 testing. Finland will join many of its Nordic and Baltic neighbors, as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia have already removed all COVID entry requirements.

Visitors from certain countries can already enter Finland without restrictions. Those include travelers from non-Schengen EU countries, as well as those from countries on the EU’s green list, and travelers with essential reasons to enter Finland. On June 30, the ability to enter Finland without COVID restrictions will extend to all visitors.

Upon arrival in Finland, you will find that most of the COVID-19 health guidelines have been lifted as well. The Finnish government has already ended its mask mandate. Facemasks are now recommended in indoor places and on public transport, but not required.

On June 30th, the social distancing and restrictive hygiene requirements placed on restaurants, hotels, and other private establishments will end as well. They will begin being able to operate at full capacity, with no restrictions.

With Finland’s announcement of restrictions ending, there are now just six countries in all of Europe with remaining COVID-19 entry requirements: France, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. It is expected that these countries will soon end their entry requirements as well.

Finland Travel Insurance

Do you need travel insurance to go to Finland? From a legal perspective, that depends on where you’re from, or the nature of your visit. If you require a Schengen visa to enter Finland, then you will also be required to have Schengen visa insurance

However, visitors from many counties, including the United States, Australia, Singapore, and numerous others can travel to Finland or any other Schengen nation for up to 90 days for business or tourism purposes without a visa, and are thus exempt from the Schengen visa insurance requirement.

But this doesn’t mean you should go without coverage. You can still get sick from COVID-19 even if you’re vaccinated. And no vaccine is going to protect you from a broken arm or concussion. Since your domestic health insurance is unlikely to be accepted in Finland, you’ll need travel medical insurance in order to be able to get medical treatment with an affordable bill. Need coverage for trip cancellation and other trip protection benefits along with emergency medical coverage? Consider travel insurance

COVID-19 restrictions are ending throughout the world, but the risk of an injury, illness, or travel mishap still exists. Be prepared to travel to Finland or anywhere else with proper international insurance.
